Harold Alderman MBE
Harold Alderman
has been an intense boxing supporter from a very young age.
Reading the 'Boxing News' in poor light resulted in Harold getting
poor eyesight, which scuppered his chance of becoming a boxer.
He was determined to continue to learn all he could about boxing
and became an avid boxing historian who throughout the years has
helped many people with his in-depth knowledge of the boxing world
to research their families boxing past. Since the 1960's
Harold's work has impacted enormously on the group of people
seeking to satisfy an unswerving desire to trace the amateur and
professional boxing roots of their ancestors from over a century
ago. His patience and dogged determination to research, collate and
archive (without the aid of a computer!) has resulted in accurate
ring records of boxers from the late 1800's through to the early
1920's which has enlightened many hundreds of people to the fight
results of their forefathers.
Harolds' MBE award was obtained through a nomination from Mrs
Jan Warren and supported by many eminent people from boxing circles
in England and America as well as family history researchers who
had all been touched by Harold's kindness and resolve.
Aylesham Boxing Club staff, members and patrons are all
immensely proud of Harold's achievements and congratulate their
president on his well-deserved status of MBE.
